My Great grandmother picked up her shuttles for me once more to make this beautiful hanky bonnet for baby on the way. She is a wonderful woman, she just celebrated her 90th birthday. They live in NY, so not much chance to see them, but they were out to visit earlier this year and were able to see my firstborn again (Ivria's middle name is Mae after her great-great grandma). How many kids can say that they at one point knew their great-great-grandparents? Both of them are still alive and I'm so grateful to know them in my adulthood. So now we have a true heirloom piece for Meirah when she is older. I've saved some other crochet doilies that I've received from her as well, and I've been given permission to raid the china cabinet at my Grandma's house for some more of her tatting, as long as I bring tatted earrings to trade I'm told :-)
So, I'm a tattingly happy girl this week! The chores are done and Thing one is sleeping, so I might find a peaceful hour to unwind my new thread and unwind myself as well.

That's wonderful! My grandmother is practically blind and I miss the stuff she used to make.
What a lovely mail delivery! Marilee's threads are as much fun to work with as they are to look at. I can't wait to see what you make! May I suggest Mary Konior's Spinning Wheel Glass Mat? ; )
The hanky is beautiful! You are so lucky to have a wonderful heirloom piece for your new baby!
You are lucky! My kids had three great-grandparents for quite a while...that is such a very special gift.
Love the thread. I just received mine as well!
90 years old and still doing lovely work! WOW - there is hope for me!!!! : )
Diane, You mind reader! I can't think of a pattern that shows off colors better!
It is a switch to be choosing a pattern based on the thread, instead of choosing a thread to suit a pattern.....
That is one awesome bonnet! How special is that!
....brings tears of happiness to my eyes. We are all so blessed to have the beautiful opportunity to know my Grandma, your Great Grandma and your girls Great-Great Grandma! I love Grandma so dearly. I have learned so much from her talented hands!

P.S. I am so excited to be seeing you all soon... very soon!
Gosh! I sure hope you've gotten a photo with all 5 generations together!!! That is a very rare and sweet thing for a family!
Enjoy your new HDT! It's very addicting! LOL!
Wow, great-great grandma! Now that is something rare. Congrats on the new baby. I love that name and your older daughter's name, too. So unique and antique, too. Heh, that rhymed. That thread looks fantastic. Even though I have quite a bit of HDT, I may have to get that one, too, now.
Your Great Grandmother's work is beautiful. What a true heirloom piece for your new baby!
BTW "roses" is one of my favorite of Marilee's HDT-s :-)
